Start your mornings at the Conference with a gentle Yoga for Grief Relief (YGR) practice. While preparing for the exciting conference program ahead, get a taste of how Yoga addresses grief and practice some of the techniques included in the YGR practice.  The activity is appropriate for everyone; no previous experience is needed. Click here for more detailed information.

A special room has been set aside to allow for quiet reflection. As we all know, life is full of changes and transitions, love and loss, but seldom are we given permission and time just to stop and reflect. Take time to do so in the Contemplation/Reflection Room.

Conference attendees are encouraged to bring a token remembrance of someone deceased and a paragraph or two explaining the meaning of the object for display in the Rituals Archive Project Room. The items and descriptions will serve to connect the legacy of the deceased and tell how it sustains and supports their surviving loved ones. The goal of the Rituals Archive Project is to highlight the cultural and ethnic uniqueness and diversity of ADEC members’ symbols of remembrance.

Artful Grief: Open Art Studio

Four specific art therapy techniques will be presented, that are appropriate for use with clients who have experienced traumatic loss. There will be case presentations, articles, displays of client art work and opportunities for hands on exploration of: Collage, Handmade Books/ “Restorative Retelling” of Grief Stories, Talking Sticks and Doll Making/ The Fabric of our Lives. All are welcome, from novices curious about grief and the expressive arts to seasoned “artists” longing to relax into a creative process, for pure delight and self soothing. You are invited to spend a few minutes or a few hours.

Authors Fair

Thursday, April 11, 9:40 a.m. - 10:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., and 3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.               

The Authors Fair is a chance for authors and self-publishers to sell their titles to all attendees, and sign books as well. In addition to larger publishers selling titles in the exhibit hall, the fair will feature space for those who self-publish or can’t exhibit. This event is free to participate. All authors are responsible for delivering their own book supply to the meeting, handling all sales, taxes, etc. Please complete the online form if you plan to participate.

Student Silent Auction

Come and bid on a variety of items in the ADEC Student Silent Auction. All proceeds fund conference scholarships for students to attend the 42nd ADEC Annual Conference in Columbus, OH in 2020. The auction will open for bidding on Thursday, April 11. Individuals are encouraged to drop off contributed auction items at the registration desk on Thursday morning. Bidding will close on Friday, April 12, at 4:15 p.m. Members of the Student and New Professionals Division will also be selling conference t-shirts – be sure to pick one up before they sell out!

Pet Remembrance Service

The loss of a companion pet can be a difficult grief, so come and share it with others who have faced a similar loss. Bring a photo to share and/or a brief story to share with the attendees, if desired. Complete the Pet Memorial Service form by March 29 .
