The Association for Death Education and Counseling®, The
Thanatology Association®, is one of the oldest
interdisciplinary organizations in the field of dying, death and
bereavement. Its nearly 2,000 members include a wide array of mental and
medical health personnel, educators, clergy, funeral directors and
volunteers. Membership in ADEC is open to anyone interested in the field
of death education and counseling.
Website Improvement Update for New Members
ADEC is building a new website to improve access to the many benefits and resources provided to ADEC members. ADEC's membership comprises a wide range of professional disciplines,
including psychology, education, nursing, hospice, research, funeral
service, and social work. The interdisciplinary nature of the membership
enables collaboration and communication across disciplinary lines
and offers a diversity of information related to end-of-life care
for the dying and bereavement care. ADEC members also work in a
variety of settings — academic institutions, private
practices, hospitals and hospices, and public health agencies. Members
reside in all regions of the United States and more than 30 countries
worldwide.

Together, ADEC members...
- Promote excellence and recognize diversity in death education, care
of the dying, grief counseling and research in thanatology.
- Provide information, support and resources to our international,
multicultural,multidisciplinary membership and, through them, to the
public.
- Facilitate the sharing of research, theory and practice in death,
dying and bereavement.
